OPTOMETRY GIVING SIGHT

Transforming lives through the gift of vision
We are proud to support the work of the charity Optometry Giving Sight (OGS).

This global charity was founded by our friend, the late great Professor Brien Holden. Every purchase of Hanks eyecharts and books will help to continue supporting his legacy and OGS.

Good vision should be available to everyone, but the World Health Organisation advises that there are 600 million people in the world who are functionally blind, simply for the lack of basic eyecare and a pair of glasses. The difference corrected vision can make to a person's life is enormous - it can literally lift them from poverty, or enable an education.

OGS addresses this need by providing funds to establish facilities and train local people in the areas of great need; in Africa, Asia, South America, or disadvantaged areas of the developed world.

Dr Anthony & Vicki Hanks Scholarship

Optometry Giving Sight

Hanks Scholarship

This scholarship supports exceptional optometry students to further their professional studies in Vietnam. The scholarship is granted by an Australian optometrist, Dr Tony Hanks OAM and his wife Mrs Vicki Hanks.

The optometry school is joint initiative between the Brien Holden Vision Institute, the University of Medicine Pham Ngoc Thach and the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital.
Honour Roll of the Dr Anthony & Vicki Hanks Scholarship:
  • 2018 - VÕ HUỲNH NHI, who is in her third year, studying Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Medicine Phạm Ngọc Thạch, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Dr Tony Hanks words of encouragement from 2014 still echo his sentiment to the cause, furthering the global development of optometrists.  "To describe the students as inspiring is an understatement. We felt so proud that these enthusiastic young people will be joining our profession as colleagues. They are not only 'joining' it, but they will literally be helping to build the profession of optometry from scratch in Vietnam”.
